Reason and Mystery

Climbing Iceberg

I wrote this for Wilsonfest and in the honor of Rick Wilson, mathematician and professor at Caltech and his wife, Kathabela.

Reason and Mystery

Reason starts with R
R sits with Rick
Rick does math that begins by M of “Mystery”

I took above two photos at the Yokohama Minatogamieruoka park yesterday.

Sei-on (pure sounds)

rick plays shakuhachi
the word, shakuhachi, has only sei-on
flutes also have only sei-on
saito mokichi wrote hosohoso to describe the sounds of flutes
like all flutes, hosohoso is all sei-on

*for sei-on and daku-on, please search on the internet.
I also wrote a blog on "Pure and Impure."

Here's Kathabela!

リック、尺八を吹く

しゃくはちもフルートも清音なり
笛の音を
茂吉はほそほそと書いた
ほそほそは
たく音にあらつ

The explanation is beyond me, but, the sentiment is delightful.

Hi ZACL!

Thank you. It's hard to explain. I'll think about better way.

By the way, I made my visit to your blog and added a comment, but I wasn't sure If I was successful in adding.
It was the most recent blog. I also read your other blog related to racism. I just want you to know I read all and all the comments, and so far, I have no word to comment.
I can't imagine that about 90% of the people in town are foreigners. But, later on, Japan will face a similar situation.

Dear Keiko, this is indeed delightful. I am sorry I was so "WilsonFest busy" I could not pay enough attention. I will show this to Rick and he will appreciate it.I will look forward to seeing you and talking more soon! Is it soon you will come "home" here!?

Hi Keiko, When I first read this I felt the mystery and that's part of what makes it so special. You poem is thoughtful and I'm drawn to it.

Rebb,

I'm glad you say so! Everything is mystery to me.

Kathabela,

Thank you for your comment. Don't worry about it. It's hard to keep up. I need a break also. Otherwise, I can't write or read.
